A Teslashing?

There's been a lot of posts lately about Steampunk and how some people are sick to death of it or frustrated by it's less than rigorous science, etc. This is not one of those posts. Well, mostly not.

It's mostly because I just discovered a great new word thanks to Scott Westerfeld: Teslashing! How much fun is that?

Seriously, though - Westerfeld talks/rants a little bit about why he writes for young adults instead of adults now, and posted some pictures from his recent book tour of things kids had made (the pictures are rad), and when he saw kids who dressed-up and asked how they liked wearing the outfits, it led to some cool discussions on classism/sexism in the Victorian age.

Personally, I'm still loving the steampunk and am happy to read it. In fact, I'm looking forward to reading more steampunk. Stories set in places other than England in the U.S. (and more importantly - stories about non-English, non-U.S. people), steampunk that puts the punk back into steampunk (then again - I think the first steampunk things I read were Miéville's Bas Lag books - so the punk hasn't been that far gone from what I've read), and most of all - good stories.

But, hey. I still like vampires, too.
