From Dark Delicacies to IKEA
So this weekend I got to go over to Dark Delicacies to see my friend Zak (aka voidmonster) sign copies Werewolves and Shapeshifters anthology with a bunch of other cool authors.
I had never been to Dark Delicacies before - even though it's technically in the same area I am, getting there takes a decent chunk of time. But the store - and the event - was loads of fun. In addition to John Skipp being there to promote the Werewolf anthology with a large group of authors, johnjosephadams was there promoting The Living Dead 2 with a bunch of other authors. And the place was packed out and jamming. I met some very cool people in line who liked my Pseudopod shirt and turns out listen to PodCastle (John Remy and Christie Yant), which was a blast, and whom both were very cool and encouraged me to up my Con game. (I think I shall!) Zak was totally in his element, even when a couple women almost fought over being his number one fan. (That one of them was kirizal doesn't matter, does it?) And I got to meet JJA, who was really cool, even after I initially fell all over him introducing myself. Also - I was able to grab the first three issues of X-Files/30 Days of Night comic. Which was cool, except for some reason I thought it was a three issues series and it's actually six. (Should've waited for the TPB! Eh, I dunno. It was the X-Files and vampires and it made me smile, so I guess I'm happy.)
Anyway, in the end Dark Delicacies goes down in my book on par with Hi De Ho Comics - a bit of a drive - but so worth it if there's a good reason.
Sunday we went to IKEA. It was much better than my last experience there, mostly because we were buying some small things to get our backyard porch set up for the kids. The backyard porch which child-safetying has been my project since my birthday. (My father-in-law did all the hard work and bossed me around, which I was fine with.) Anyway, it was all totally worth it to see the kids playing back there the last couple of nights.
Last night I spent a lot of time getting the first part of the Tricks or Treats special emailed out, and also posting the latest PodCastle: Caitlin R. Kiernan's: "The Belated Burial". (Caitlin R. Kiernan!!! Vampires!!! An Edgar Allan Poe-like story!!!) Did I mention it's Halloween month at PodCastle? Last week we ran Ramsey Shehadeh's awesome post-apocalyptic monster-romp "Creature" and gregvaneekhout's nasty little piece of dark fantasy "Ghost Market". Did I mention Halloween makes me happy?
So that was my weekend. I'm pretty wiped out, but having a hell of a good time. How are all of you?
