Steampunk With Soul

i am seriously not trying to kiss ass here.

I was pretending to do research on my lunch today by reading Maurice Broaddus's "Pimp My Airship," a steampunk story that brings the funk.

Imagine that the American Civil War never happened because the invention of automatons replaced slavery, emmancipation is really more like segregation, and you've pretty much in the right setting. Toss in a blend of spirituality and revolution, cool characters with names like Sleepy Nixon and Deaconess Blues, tech, and of course airships. Airships piloted by Afronauts. Dear, God, Afronauts. (You can almost see Samuel L. Jackson as Knowledge Allah, although Lance Reddick would be kind of kick ass, too.)

Anyway, it's a very different kind of steampunk, well worth checking out, and a story I was genuinely disappointed to see end.
