Kind of a follow-up to my resolutions post, but I'm going to go a little more in-depth on the writing front. Mostly, I just wanted to have an account of what I accomplished this year.
I wrote three new stories -- "The Gearaffe That Didn't Tick," "Heart of Clay," and "Life Debt." I also worked my butt off trying to rewrite "Haole."
All in all, I collected 26 rejections for short stories. Some of them were kind of nice, which helped cushion the blows.
I sold two short stories and had two short stories published, which was very cool.
Hub kicked it off by running "God-Shaped Box" while
Murky Depths and
Variant Frequencies did a one-two combo on "Saint Darwin's Spirituals." "Puritan Noir: Love Burns" also sold to
Coyote Wild, but hasn't been published yet.
That all happened in about two months time, which made for an egotistical two months (the other 10 months were mostly filled with the God, do I suck or what? period).
I worked on Fallen Horizon but have not finished it. That's going to be one of my first goals at the beginning of this year.
Probably my biggest achievement of the past year was getting
Dave Shot First up and running. And despite some technical issues I had at the beginning. Finally podcasting The Unbelievable Origin of Superspiff and the Toothpick Kid was a challenge, but I'm proud of what I did accomplish. I've got a long way to go in the podcasting world, but that's okay. I've got plans and ambitions and hopes and dreams.
Which brings us to the resolve part. I want to get Superspiff and the Toothpick Kid up on podiobooks. I want to get Balam's Ass kick-started on Dave Shot First. I want to have a completed noir horror novella finished by the fall and ready to podcast. I want to have another draft of a horror novel done by the end of the year. I want to write some more short stories (and find homes for them all, of course), including another couple set in Saint Darwin's world. I want to get an agent or a contract for Fallen Horizon.
In short, I'm not getting any younger. And I want to make this year mine.
