• Bleed, through...

Well I am trying to figure more than a few things out. I am thinking about dropping my classes, seeing if they will pro-rate the loans, and then going to the Portland Art Institute, or... ITT-Tech in Boise. That's right ITT-Tech. I figured out more than a few things from IGDA, and this subsite.
ITT-Tech. I have a mentor there. Eric Regner is a damn smart, and damn fine man. It also donned on me that many of the people in the Industry do not have Fine Arts degrees. It's not about where you go to school, it's about who you know and how shiny your portfolio is. You have to sell yourself. If I did go back to ITT, my credits would not have to Transfer, I would save 30% because I am an Alumni, and I would be done in 2 years. I am gonna call them and e-mail Eric. See if they have gotten their act together. I am almost sure they have.
In the meantime, I am also perusing Blizzard, Cyan, Ubisoft, EA-Games, and Lucas Arts; for job opening and requirement. No I do not think I will get one with them, yet. I do however want to see how high the bar is.
Two years ago, when I was getting out of ITT and doing my Exit Interview, many companies wanted people with degrees in Fine Arts. Now that more and more Technical Schools are training students, people are asking for, "Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent training preferred. ".
Things do not seem so grim after all.

I know I do not belong in Alabama, but my options just got a whole lot wider.

I need to take some time to add some things to my Portfolio. Robots, Weapons, Pirates, Ninjas, Spaceships, Buildings... I think I can make it happen. I need to document my designs and progress. Looks like I need some time off to find myself.

• All along the Watch-Tower.

There is a place on the campus where there is some semi-intelligent graffiti. Unobtrusive, you will notice that the largest, and oldest, phrase says, "The Future is Static". A slightly less faded, more recent reply says, "If the future is static, is the past in motion?".

I have signed my name on the Watchtower and there was not a better night to do it. The Watchtower did not come to me, but I saw it there in the form of cement. I ventured forth, the night lit by the full moon, everything a shade of blue. Sharpie in hand, stepped up and wrote this...

The future is a Tapestry. A myriad of threads each one a person or event. Every action creates a ripple in the fabric. Only the past is static. Seize the present while you can. You only live once. The present lends momentum to future events. -Andson B. Charew.

I have no regret. I have never done anything like this, but I am sure it can be painted, or it will come off with alcohol. I need others to know that there is hope. The only way to do this is to oppose doctrines that would suppress hope, creativity, and the future.

Seize the moment. It is never too late.

I pray for your awakenings.

• Will you bite the hand that feeds?

In considering my future, and good design. I have also considered popular trends. I have come to a conclusion that is hard to challenge. If it does not some way relate to Robots, Ninjas or Spaceships, it is not "cool". This is an easy argument to defend. Also if one finds their ideals of "cool" wrought with fallacies, one only has to consider the former three options.
Say you have a dinosaur. Are dinosaurs cool? No. But they could be. Is it a Ninja Dinosaur? A Robot Dinosaur? A Dinosaur that is a spaceship? The same goes for anything; from cats, to oranges, to constructions workers. If you can't place it somewhere in the "cool" matrix, you have failed. If it can qualify as all three, well then you should win a prize.
