Randomly bumping into a familiar local happens on occasion, even in a town of a million people. But to randomly bump into someone who hasn't been in the country in over three years, that takes a few more kinks out of the coincidence meter.
I was going through the cash at Wal-mart when I noticed a familiar face smiling at me from the end of the row. I did three double-takes (a triple take?) as my brain processed the info:
- Oh hello, it's a familiar face!
- Oh hello, why it's my good friend Jennifer!
- Oh HELLO! Jennifer is here in Ottawa???!!!
In short, Jennifer Brown has been in South Korea teaching English for the past four years. We've seen each other a couple times since she left but the last time I saw her was way back in 2005.
To make matters more interesting, Jennifer had actually been trying to get a hold of me. She hadn't succeeded in reaching me during her two week holiday and she was heading to the airport first thing this morning.
So our random meeting at Wal-mart as she was rushing off to meet another friend, (hence the reason she was in my end of town in the first place, when her family lives roughly 40 minutes away in Vars) could not have been better timed if we'd actually tried to orchestrate it! The earlier day's circumstances that resulted in my going through the cash at that precise moment are inorchestrable in of themselves.
So cool!
