I have the flu. Sometimes I like how illness relinquishes all of you responsibilities for just a little while. The I should be doing this and I should be doing that turns into "have some fluids and go to bed." It's absolutely luxurious.
Relishing in the small things that I would have ignored even a year ago.
Waking up early and watering my plants. Admiring how my cucumber has wrapped its tendrils in ringlets around the metal cage I've given them to climb. Noticing my tomatoes and calendulas are about to bloom. The cold damp morning air and sun rising over the tea trees. Watching as condensation drips down the pak choi leaves.
Had some vogels toast with butter. Ate them upside down of course, so I could taste every bit of butter. Warmed my hot water bottle and wheat bag and crawled back into bed and fell asleep.
Made a huge pot of chicken noodle soup from scratch, and spent all day eating it. Just reheating that pot as I got hungry. Warm, salty carrots, potatoes, corn, green beans and noodles.
Perused trademe and won a vintage Burberry trench and a Scottish wool cape . I'm so happy to find these unique pieces eventhough I have much too many clothes.
Sat in almost silence reading a somber novel and listening to the rhythmic clicking of my flatmate perusing facebook. It reminds me of when I'd fall asleep next to my father working. At around 7 I'd alway stay up late and watch Jay Leno in the lounge as my Dad worked. I'd always fall asleep on the couch to that gentle click of the mouse and clacking of the keys.
Can't wait til Sam gets here. He's working late tonight. I like his dull freckles and his broad nose with that bump in the middle.
The first fire of the year has been lit. Autumn is here , which means a season filled with free feijoas, tamarillos and persimmons I scavenge from neighbourhood walks and friends' houses. Hot drink after hot drink. Hearing the whir and blue light of the kettle. Dilmah followed by a hot toddy, sencha, turkish apple, chai, mexican hot chocolate.
