I can't believe that ...

I am going to DEFEND WALMART ?!?

Yeah, you read right. Recently, religious groups are picketing Walmart because employees are not wishing Merry Christmas to people, but the generic "happy holidays." For once, Walmarts "any-way-we-can-get-money-from-you" business model is on the right side of the fence. Walmart was quoted as saying that they started their "home for the holidays" slogan was promoted before thanksgiving and will continue after new years, and that it encompasses many different celebrations of faith. God bless Walmart for standing up for consumerism and I hate to say it, but it's about the most capitalistic things that Walmart could do. If there is some wacky, out of the way holiday out there, Walmart will make napkins, paper plates, and little doo-dads commmemorating it. I find it hard to believe that Walmart is the face of multi-culturalism and openness and understanding, but hey, there salsa is REALLY CHEAP!

The other side of the coin is this. Do the people that are all "hey, you are taking the christ out of christmas" REALLY want advertisement agencies putting Christ back INTO Christmas advertising? If I was a decendant of Abe Lincoln or George Washington I would not be amused by all the crappy actors chopping down fake trees to sell a crappy american car. We'd soon be inundated with scenes of the following ...

"This is Tom Bodett, and at Super 8, we'd never turn away the messiah ... So Jesus, we'll leave the light on for you"

"As your Savior, I'm all about saving as much as possible ... at Citibank, you'll save more than your soul ... and be protected from fraud as well"

How about the M&M's or California Raisins bringing gifts to the new born king?

The little drummer boy finishing his song and being told by Simon from American Idol that his drumming was bloody awful, followed by William Hung singing away in the manger ... All on FOX!

I can imagine Moses brand tires parting snow and water as a sports car is driving down a trecherous road.
