New York City
He happened upon them and couldn't believe his luck; a free show and on a Saturday night, the night he'd taken off. Two men going at it near the waterfront. They looked evenly matched as they countered each other's moves, their swords clanged out the familiar sound of battle.
He moved closer after watching for a few minutes. Close enough so they would sense his presence. And sense it they did! Both stepped back from the fight and shifted their attention to the surroundings. But the pause lasted for only a moment as one of them lunged forward catching the other man off-guard and slicing his thigh. The wounded immortal rallied swiftly and the fight was rejoined with renewed vigor.
He chuckled and pulled out a pack of red licorice he'd just gotten from a store around the corner. This well-matched fight was worthy of a snack.
Five minutes and three licorice strips later it looked like one of them was finally getting the upper hand. One had slipped and fallen onto his back. The other took the opportunity to kick his sword free and out of reach. The downed man jumped to his feet but was swiftly run through.
Kronos stepped from the shadows just as the head came off. The immortal still standing spun around to face him.
"Nice work," he said with a relaxed tone. He stepped even closer and the other man grimaced. Kronos could guess what he might be thinking. Bad timing for this! Very bad timing! There was a second of complete horror on the other immortal's face just before the quickening took him. There was nothing for it; he couldn't stop this man if he'd decided to take his head now.
He just watched as the electricity shot through the air destroying everything it touched but them.
When it was over the other man was on his knees and Kronos was no longer in sight. The immortal hastily rummaged through the dead man's coat. All the time he kept looking around. He could feel the other man but had no idea where he was. It was nerve-racking and he moved swiftly to dispose of the body and get out of there before anything else happened.
Now that the show was over, Kronos watched with indifference. He was just getting ready to head out when he saw something fall from the victor's coat as he moved off. He walked out from the shadows and looked around. The dropped item and blood were the only things left to show someone had been here and the oncoming storm would wash that last bit of evidence away. But not this… He picked up the item and examined the contents before tucking it safely inside his jacket and heading after the other immortal.
He loved stalking his own kind, he'd always found it great sport. He did it a lot just for the fun of it. He didn't always take their heads once he'd found them. He just liked to see their expressions when the hunt was done. This guy knew the city but it didn't matter, he couldn't hide what he was.
Cat and mouse for a time. The other would duck into some alley; Kronos would move out of range and wait for him to take off again. The evening went on like this despite the heavy rain. Finally the other man headed into the subway. Now he'd have to pick up the pace or lose him. He rushed across the street and followed him down. There was a train just getting ready to pull out. He saw the other immortal get on but he was a second too late. The doors shut and the other immortal smiled triumphantly through the glass. Kronos nodded at him and then pulled out the item. He opened it up, held it right against the window for the other to clearly see, and he mouthed, "You dropped your wallet!" The subway car pulled away and Kronos just stood there smirking.
