Some of you knew that I was and have been looking for new job opportunies. Hell, this March marks 9 years with the same company so to say it was time for a change wouldn't be that much of a stretch.
Some of you may have also heard me say that I had something hopefully lined up but I wasn't going into much details mainly because I didn't want to get my hopes up too much or two soon. I guess I thought it was in the bag but I didn't want to jinx anything.
Well, today I found out the truth.
For those of you who didn't know, I was in contact with the manager of an EB Games and, the original plan was for me to jump ship and join them as an Assistant Manager or a Manger-In-Training. Well, because of the timing (near X-mas), I wasn't able to work there and had to wait until the new year.
Jump forward to 2 weeks ago.
I stop by the Gamestop in my mall and the manager there tells me that the manger of the EB that I wanted to work at was looking to get in touch with me. SWEET! Finally. So the next day I give her a ring and, at first, she didn't remember who I was. When I told her that the GS manager told me she was looking for me, she perked up. She asked me if I was still interested and I said yes. Then she asked me how soon could I start... if two weeks was enough time. Ummm... two weeks? I haven't even agreed to take the job yet. On top of that, but I still have a vacation in my current job. If I give my two weeks, I lose my vacation! So... I told her that ideally I would need 3 weeks. Not much longer than what she was asking and, hell, considering they've been without a Assistant for well over 6 months, I thought it should be much of an issue. Some backpeddling on her part and she said that she needs to get in touch with her DM and she'd call me back.
Fast forward to today.
I haven't heard a peep from them in the weeks since our last phone call so I stop off there on my day off to see if she's working. I manage to catch her and she says... unfortunately 3 weeks was too much time. They needed someone sooner. WTF!!!! And to make matters more infuriating, despite all of that, she's still WITHOUT an assistant. If they needed someone quick, I'd understand. But she still hasn't gotten anyone!!!! That week that I asked for was apparently the deal breaker.
But what the hell, I didn't even agree to take the job yet. I didn't even know how much they'd pay me. And 7 days was too much time? How fucking unreasonable.
Needless to say, I'm horribly disappointed. I guess the only good thing is that she said she'd talk to her DM and find out what's up.
If anyone knows of anyone looking to hire an assistant manager, let me know.
