I wouldn't call it a repeat of 8 years ago considering its happened since then. But I would have to say that 4 school shootings in one week is particularly horrendous and, as far as I know, a terrible new record.

so, in answering your question, yes. I do remember Columbine, but I don't see the strength of your point.

well, what I think I meant to say was eight years ago it became a prevalent thing, and people were doing it and every week you'd hear of a new school shooting, and then Columbine became the major one.

I feel like it's a repeat in the sense that now it's always in the news again, and just when we thought we were okay, too.

But it's been in the news this entire time.
It's just as much a repeat of Columbine as it is a repeat of the one that happened on the Reservation last year or the one on the playground or any of the countless others.

To say it is a repeat of Columbine, to single out Columbine, is to do what too many people, both in the media and outside of it, are doing: ignoring the horror of all the other school shootings so that they could have one to refer to, and one to hold as symbolic.

It's just as much a repeat of 8 years ago as it is a repeat of last year, and the year before and the year before. It is just as much a repeat of those events as the second school shooting was a repeat of the first. Except the people are different and the places are different, and the horror is unique, but none of them are more special than the others. It's horror lies in itself, not in its similarity to another event.
