fuckin dept. of public welfare...

So apparently my child abuse clearance forms got sent to the wrong address and my supervisor did not decide to tell me he hadn't received them yet until AFTER i had already been working there for a month. Then my boss made it clear that it was up to me to call the dept. of public welfare to find out what the deal was. It ended up being my fault since I was living at my old address when I filled them out and that's where they got sent. The bitch whom I talked to said they'd send me another copy to my new address but that she could not mail or fax a copy to my employer. Her only explanation for why she could not do that was "we do not provide that service here". That leads me to believe that they do not have a fax machine or a copy machine at the dept. of public welfare. Because of this whole mess I ended up missing 2 days of work over the weekend since technically without these clearances I am not allowed to be around the children. However I was able to come in yesterday and today to do "light detail" tasks. I ended up spending the last 2 days decorating the unit for halloween, shopping, and hanging out w/my supervisor and the therapists. I felt terrible at first because I was like oh god everyone's going to think i'm a child abuser because my clearances have not come through, but I was relieved to find out that i'm definitely not alone in this situation and things like this actually happen pretty often. My papers SHOULD be coming tomorrow and then I'll get to go back to work and do what i normally do. It hasn't been all bad because yesterday I was able to sit in on a clinical review meeting with the therapists, program coordinator, project manager, nurses, and campus doctor. It gave me a completely different perspective on where some of these kids are coming from and how they should be handled. Today I got to go to Value City to pick up some clothing and winter gear for one of the boys on my unit. I got lost a couple times getting there and it was cold and rainy but it was so worth it. He was SOOOOO excited about the clothes. He went around showing everyone "look what Kristin bought me". It was very rewarding and I must admit I was proud of myself for picking out the right things because this kid is a bit of a fashion diva.

Besides the whole work issue this weekend was pretty drama filled in other aspects of my life. My mom and Debbie came out to visit and it was so great seeing my mom for the first time since august. That was probably the only positive about this weekend. The rest of it was crap.
