Jobs

Start date for my new job got pushed back to October 17th (not surprised) and I have been providing them with my life history in the form of official documents. I have some interesting other developments (VERY good ones) on another job front but that HAS to be kept hush-hush. It won't interfere with the NHPD bridging...just awesome things. :)

My current Health Canada job just got a lot more interesting. I don't know if any of you are aware of the Supreme Court ruling on the Vancouver Supervised (NOT "SAFE") Injection Sites (SIS) but the Section 56 exemption (for scientific research) came from my unit. It has been a great opportunity to learn a lot more about hot files. :) Wish I could talk more about the file because it is REALLY interesting discussions going on but...obviously...I can't. I will really miss working with these people. They are a super awesome team full really hard-working motivated individuals. I also will miss the 5 min commute to work.

ART

Attended the Lost Marbles Munny Show at the Falldown Gallery (does that count as having my "work" in a "gallery"? ... ... ). It was definately a better event than when it was hosted at the Mayfair. Here are Ming Wu's photos from the evening:

So other than my jobs I decided to try cross-stitching. It is honestly fool-proof but takes FOREVER. I couldn't help but think, "I could have drawn this is a fraction of the time." So, yeah, if you want a REALLY easy craft that comes out looking half-decent even if you don't have a creative bone in your body...try cross-stitching.

Here are links to my two cross-stitching projects (on deviantArt of course):

I didn't make the patterns but after looking into it...there are programs that make the patterns for you. O_o They even choose the right DMC colours for you.

My next project is going to be building an indoor dog house. I have roped my dad into helping me (because he has all the tools including all the electrical saws I will need) so it has turned into a "daughter/father building project." I don't really care about the dog house (though it will be fun to have) as much as I care about learning a bit more about tools and building. I just felt like building something out of wood. We are hoping to have the thing completed by the end of October. I will try to remember to share some progress shots.

Halloween
I am having trouble getting into the spirit this year...mostly because I miss my Gran (Thanksgiving was her last hurrah. She went into the palliative care a day later. She died on the 30th). I have costumes for Morty (someone on dA asked me if I was selling the GIR costume...it's for a dog man...) and I know what I am making (something really basic but fun) for me and I have a something in mind for Phil but he is dragging his feet about giving me the final go ahead. They are pretty easy and basic costumes which require practically no sewing and little assembly. With all the other stresses I figured I would keep it simple. Next year I will try and do something more extravagant than my past costumes.

Swimming
I REALLY want to get back into competitive swimming. I have been thinking about it for years but I will finally have the funds and a vehicle to do so. I hope to start in the new year (or sooner) but I have to wait until I get a few paychecks from the new job. I know the team I want to join. I will start with four times a week and maybe get up to six eventually...it won't be as crazy as when I used to do 10 practices a week. I think I miss having a coach tell me that I am a wuss and a useless piece of crap. :)

Morty
Morty turned 1 this past Monday! I made a cake to celebrate (for Phil and I). He survived a year without me killing him! He is a very healthy and happy dog. We will also be starting Click-a-Trick classes sometime this month so look out for more annoying dog tricks on youtube! :)

...I think that is all...
