Since I am still sick (have been since Thursday) and helping Ryan move made it worse, I didn't do anything interesting for Valentine's Day. Phil did drag my sick sorry arse out to Milestones for a wonderful meal but I was pretty numb, quiet and mildly grumpy. :S I tried my best to be cheery. He is such a trouper.
Nothing went as planned for Phil: My gift is still en route and his roommate is insisting that he cannot miss a SECOND of the Olympic coverage so we haven't had a chance to play Bioshock 2. :S We didn't get a chance to play because one of his roommates plops himself down on the couch after he wakes up (which is around 11:30) and doesn't move until well after midnight. Well, that's not true. Sometimes he goes into his room and listens to the coverage while watching OTHER events online. /facepalm I don't mind getting somewhat into the Olympics (I have a bit of a hate-on for
Dale Begg-Smith - seriously, this guy is a jerk, a sore looser and has made a lot of money off of malware, adware and spyware - I was very happy when he lost the gold to a Canadian) but after having mono during the Nagano Olympics I really don't care if I ever hear Brian Williams' voice again. Between this and the racist, sexist and homophobic comments the roommate has made (obviously which are my bigger beef with him), I cannot wait until May and I never have to see that sad-little man child again. I get the feeling he ruined our plans on purpose (this wouldn't be the first time something he HAS to watch comes on knowing we had plans).
As I said: Phil is a trouper.
Moving on...
I don't really know how to introduce this other than saying, "Japan, while the origin of many, many, many awesome things is weird."
An old anime bud of mine,
blodeuedd , , who moved to the land of the rising sun (or the day book - har har) a few years ago keeps us up to date with her latest Japanese adventures. Sometimes the adventures involve wicked shoe finds or overnight mountain hikes. Other times they involve veggie vending machines:

In her own words: "Then on the way home, I saw the cutest thing ever: a produce vending machine in which were lovely large Chinese cabbages. The machine was asking Y200 for them, but stuck into each cabbage was a toothpick on which hung a 50yen coin." I, like her, was very amused by not only the convenience of the produce dispenser but the honesty of not overcharging and pinning change to each individual head. O_o
Only in Japan... :D
Now for something completely different:
