Every time someone compliments Eternity: Spellbound, it's like someone jabbing a needle in my heart.

It hurts because I wasn't able to be in a tournament that so many others enjoyed.

Not at all.

Spellbound was always intended to have a system, and there wasn't much contention that I recall to replace Weave with nothing (although it took so long between the first rejection and Plasmos stepping down as designer that it might as well have), nor did I see much opposition to Duo Host. But on the threads I've read talking about RI going forward, the "no gameplay" side has a lot of traction, and it's safe to say that Spellbound "helped" (I'd wager that at least of the problems it had with participation were due to the delays the system confusion caused, which of course in the Simple View of Things wouldn't have happened if the system had been jettisoned then).

But no, every comment talking about "simplified" systems or "changing focus to RP" or whatnot is another dagger in Caesar's Systems [as it were :}], and I was part of RI for years: momentum is everything there. People have and will vote for tourneys with easier systems and eventually for none at all, until there's either a backlash or failure (or both). That's the way it is. And honestly, they might be onto something-- I can think of a lot more decent tournaments marred by bad/broken systems than good systems hindered by poor writing (uh... maybe S15?).

But really, I could be totally wrong because all the important discussions of RI's future happen on the channel anyway; I was mostly going off what I saw of Vanguard's runaway popularity awhile back coupled with wanting to make Krizak feel better. *chuckles*

Ah...outright telling him that Vanguard is going to kill systems is not going to make the guy who loves them most feel better. whatever. It's just a new idea. You remember the old WWF PPV format? Tournaments can still be the Royal Rumble, the Survivor Series, etc. I just think we could use a Wrestlemania.

...there's a frightening ease with which that comparison came upon me that I shouldn't dwell upon, I think.
