Chapter Summery: Mikey has the power this time.
Disclaimer: You know this isn’t real… Right?
A/N: Yeah so… This is AU like nobody’s business. Frankie, Ray, and Mikey are all the same age and Bob and Gee are only a year older. But… It works for the story so… Deal with it. This is going to go from when the younger three are in Kindergarten till they graduate college.

It became a precedent among the boys not to ask questions. They merely took everything as is was. No one said anything about Gerard and Mikey. They all knew. But they didn’t say anything. Ray was new. But he caught on pretty quick. He fit in seamlessly in the group, finding himself becoming close with the other boys quickly. He laughed with them, cried with them, and as the trial date drew near, he worried with them. He worried about Mikey and he worried about himself. He was the closest thing to a witness that they had. He would be taking the stand as well.

He went over everything in his head and decided that he would just tell them everything as he saw it. Unfortunately, he found Mikey hours after the attack. He didn’t see the guys. Luckily, the gang was also busted for drug trafficking and didn’t have enough money for a lawyer. They were appointed a crappy little rent-an-attorney that had just gotten out of law school.

Upon seeing the boys huddled together in the diner fretting, Sam did her best to make them feel better.

“Think of it this way, the police have pictures, and the doctors have a report of all the damages. Then there’s a DNA test to prove it was them. Combine that with the testimonies and it’s a slam dunk case.” She placed a strawberry banana milkshake in front of Mikey. “You’ve got nothing to worry about kiddo.”

The morning of the trial, Ray’s parents drove them to the court house.  Mikey was silent and pale. He gnawed his lip and wrung his hands until Gerard grabbed his hands and held them still.

“It’ll be fine.” He murmured, kissing Mikey’s forehead. “I’ll be right behind you and they’ll be in handcuffs. There’ll be cops everywhere. All of us will be there. You’ll be ok.”

The morning of the trial, Ray’s parents drove them all to the court house.  Mikey was silent and pale. He gnawed on his lip and twisted his fingers together until Gerard took his hands and held them still.

“It’ll be fine.” He murmured, kissing his baby brother on the forehead. “”I’ll be sitting right there. They’ll be in handcuffs. There’ll be police everywhere. All of us will be right there. You have the power this time.”

Mikey nodded and took a deep breath before walking bravely into the courthouse. He had Gerard and Bob on either side of him. He stopped dead when he saw Matt and his gang being led into the building. Matt grinned menacingly, bearing his teeth Jimmy glared and Zacky smirked at him. Mikey shuddered and tried to breathe as Gerard rubbed his back.

They were directed into a courtroom and shown where to sit. Ray had to wait in the hall because he was testifying and Mikey had to sit next to the lawyer. The other three boys sat in the row behind him. Mikey squeezed his eyes shut and tried to ignore his attackers sitting just a few feet away from him. He could do this.

Ray sat in the windowsill in the hallway, waiting to be called in. He alternated between staring at the door and staring out the window as he went over that morning in his head. When it was time for him to go in, he took a deep breath, stood up, and walked through the door confidently.

He could tell that Mikey had already told his part. The smaller boy was as pale as he could get, tears streaming down his face as he tried to breathe without shaking. Ray caught his eye and nodded, telling him silently that everything would be ok.

He walked up to the wooden platform and went through the motions before sitting behind the small fence. He looked at the group of boys sitting behind the defendant table and felt a surge of seething anger and hatred rise within him.

First, Mikey’s lawyer asked him to go through his side of the story. He got through it alright, giving step by step of what he saw. He couldn’t look at Mikey while he spoke. He didn’t think he would be able to handle the look on his friend’s face.

He thought he did ok for as nervous as he was. The other lawyer tried to break him, but Ray just stared him down. No, he didn’t actually see what happened or see the accused boys there. But that was what the DNA test was for. What was he doing out so early? He was going for a walk, like he did at least once a week. Why was he over there? He lived around the block. Question after question and he didn’t loose his footing. Then the man tried a new angle.

“You’ve pressed charges against my clients before, right?”

“I… Yes.”

“And you lost that case?”

“Yes.”

“So you have something of a grudge against my clients then. And you would probably jump on any chance to get at them.”

Ray’s jaw dropped and he shook his head. “No! That has nothing to do with this! But yeah, I’ve pressed charges against them. Lots of people have. This isn’t the first time they’ve hurt someone. Just the first time they’ve taken it this far. That we know of anyway. Have you seen the police photos? Have you read the hospital repots? How can you stand there and try to say that they did nothing wrong?”

After barely ten minutes, the jury was back in with the verdict. The foreman, who was really a woman in her early twenties who glared at Matt and his gang as she spoke.

“On the charge of physical assault, we find the defendants… Guilty. On the charge of sexual assault, we find the defendants… Guilty.”

Mikey let out a breath of relief that he hadn’t realized that he was holding and listened to the judge. Prison. They were going to prison. They would never hurt him again.
