I had a lot to say, but now I can´t really remember what that was. I wrote it down but left that paper at home...

Friday was sad. We had about 10 people leaving the GVI project in Itzapa and Santa Maria. Some of them cried and I cried with them also because apparently I´m a big baby. One of one girl´s students didn´t come because he didn´t want to have to say goodbye to her. :( Friday was also really good because I had an idea for a craft that everyone totally participated in and didn´t give me any problems about. We´ve been learning about the flora and fauna of Guatemala and I drew out a few different environments on posters, got the kids into groups, and they had to draw either the flora or fauna of that environment depending on what they had. Some groups had farms and they had to draw domestic animals or crops, and others had some of the nature conservatories and had to draw wild animals that are found there. We gave them small pieces of paper to draw on, I put some examples on the board, and they did an amazing job. One group of girls in the afternoon did a GORGEOUS poster. They all had a shared vision, all did their part, and I have a great picture of all of them working on various sections simultaneously. I´m going to put them up in the classroom on Monday. Also, both classes randomly burst out into song during the class. I´m not kidding. They SANG SPONTANEOUSLY. If that´s not a sign of a good craft, I don´t know what is.

We now have GVI Guatemala t-shirts, for the ridiculously inexpensive price of Q20 (about $2.50). I´m changing the size of mine since they´ll shrink, but I´m kind of excited to have one.

I can´t believe it´s August 1. When did that happen?? Where did June and July go? It´s hard to believe I only have 2 weeks left with my kids and then I get to travel and come home. My feelings are mixed. The kids like word searches so I made one for each class with all their names in it for my last day. I think they´ll enjoy having to find themselves and their classmates in it. :)

I spent yesterday walking around with Crystal, my new house mate, and we did the ruins of San Francisco and some other things I´ve been meaning to do and never really go around to. I found Havaiana flip flops for Q120 (maybe about $15), which would have sold for probably about $25 at home. I also wandered around a market and found another bag which has probably just about every color there is in it and some embroidered flowers.

I think I´m going to bring back hot sauce for my dad and Eric. Everyone goes NUTS for this stuff called Picamas, which is not that spicy but is really good on pretty much everything. I can get a small bottle of it for about 50 cents. There are also other hot sauces of varying intensities that I can bring back for them. Customs will let me take that in as long as it´s sealed, right?

What else ... Crystal and I are going to go to Pastores on Tuesday, which is on the way back from Itzapa. It´s a small town we pass through every day that is known for its boots. You can get custom boots there for $50 - you pick out your leather, your sole, your design, etc. and they draw your foot and have them ready to pick up in a few days. Sometimes you can´t find non-custom boots in the States for $50. Some have also told me it´s unacceptable that I´ve been living in Colorado for 2 years and still don´t own cowboy boots. So, custom cowboy boots from Pastores!!

I think that´s about it. More sometime this week. :)
