It's Election Day! I haven't posted in awhile but this deserves a post. I can honestly say that I am super into this election, which is kind of amazing because I never really gave a damn about politics until I started dating Pete and even then it was nowhere near where I am now. I was just so upset my the election. I always liked Senator McCain, though I have not always agreed with him, and I voted for him in the primaries, though he quickly changed my mind about the general. Then he turned Mr. Hyde on me. I just can't believe he couldn't bother to stop people from yelling "kill Arabs" at his rallies. I was also extraordinarily offended that he said things like "Arab, no he's (Obama) is a decent family man." multiple times. What hurt even more is hardly anyone called McCain on this hate mongering expect NPR, the Daily Show, and bless his heart Colin Powell. I feel like if it were any other ethnic group people would be up in arms.

People have said ignorant things to me in my life but I had no idea that their was so much anti-Arab sentiment in the United States and that it was so widely accepted and overlooked. I could probably use a group therapy session about now. =)

It also makes me really upset that Arab Americans immigrate to this country to escape militant groups like Al-Quada only to now be associated with the very people who were terrorizing them.

I also hate the assumption that every Arab American is Muslim when must of us are not and that every Muslim is a terrorist when very few are.

But the good news is that someone with the middle name Hussain was elected so I guess I shouldn't feel guilty about giving my son Massouh as a middle name.

Yes we can!
