This last week was rather good. Some of it I can't talk about, but suffice it to say that I had a much-needed respite mid-week with an accompanying ego-boost, and things I was upset about before no longer upset me. At all. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize how good it is that things are as they are. I can't tell you what a relief that is. And now that I'm done being upset ... it's time for some fun. ;)
I went to see Leila and Tim and meet their baby Thomas Thursday thru Sunday. It was really great to get out of the DC area and to see them again. We hadn't seen each other since Halloween. Their baby is freakin' ADORABLE. That's not surprising, considering his parents, but he's smiley and delightful. Tim and Leila says he never likes new people as much as he took to me, but I had a lot of fun with him and it was definitely another ego-boost. And holy crap, Leila and I spent a day in Chicago and I had the BEST EFFING PIZZA EVER. I don't remember the name of the restaurant (Giordano's, maybe) but we had the veggie stuffed pizza and it was amazing. I'm checking out grad schools in Chicago - more on that in a bit - and I'd be there all the time. And gain 50 pounds. And probably blow away in the winter. Totally worth it for that pizza.
Currently I'm thinking that I want to go to grad school for social work. I'd like to get involved in international social work, and I've found a few good programs that are just for social work and some dual degree programs for an MSW/Masters in International Studies and/or Master of International Human Rights. I'm having lunch with a friend who finished her MSW a year ago and I'll be picking her brain for things I should be looking into. Also, I decided to start volunteering to get a feel for what I'd be getting into and found Greater DC Cares. I went to an orientation tonight and it was a great idea - they volunteer everywhere, take care of everyone and everything from the environment to children to the disabled to the elderly to the homeless and to people with HIV/AIDS and all that stuff. They also offer workshops on the various areas (homeless, enviroment, etc.) to educate volunteers on the issues plaguing the DC area. So basically, besides being a good thing to do in general, I'll get a definite feel for what I'd do as a social worker and learn about the underlying issues within things, and maybe a better idea of what population I'd like to work with if/when I work in the States as opposed to internationally. I really feel like I'm on the right track this time. And if you're in the area and would like to volunteer also, visit www.greaterdccares.org .
Oh, and I also saw TWO rainbows this week - one last Wednesday and one yesterday. I'm taking them as a very good sign of things to come. HOORAY FOR THINGS FINALLY GETTING SUBSTANTIALLY BETTER!!!!!!!
good things coming,
