CHICAGO!!!

I went home Thursday night for some good ole quality family time. My mother made the best chicken, stuffing, and mashed potato dinner in my life. Plus, she made cookies for my belated birthday celebration. It felt sooo good to be home. It’s much different going home now than last year, UD has lost its “newness” and excitement. I still love college though, don’t worry!

Friday, my parents and I left at the ass crack of dawn for Chicago. I, for the most part, slept but I was a mean map reader on the crazy streets of Chicago. My parents and I went to Chinatown (purchase number 1: paper lantern for dorm room) via the commuter train. Afterwards, we hit up Michigan mile including the brand new H&M (purchase #2: sweater), and Godiva Chocolate (purchase #3: chocolate, much better than M&Ms, Erin). At this point, we met up with my brother and his girlfriend. This was the first time that I had met her, Amy by the way, and she was awesome. I loved her personality. On a side note, my dad kept calling her Amanda, the name of my brother’s ex girlfriend. Lets see, then we went in search for imitation purses. Finally, my brother spotted a girl he went to high school with and she pointed us to the fake purses (Purchase # 4 and #5: 2 fake purses, a Kate Spade and a Burberry). After running in to two more people that he knew (let me remind you, we are on the streets of Chicago, thousands of people live here, and he saw three that he knew!!), the fam stopped at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Then back to the hotel for time with the extended fam.

Now Saturday, the big day. My parents and I got up again at the ass crack of dawn to go to the Navy Pier. Then, we headed back to the hotel to get gussied up. We met up with the extended fam for the pre wedding wine and cheese party. Then we headed to the church for my cousin’s wedding. My cousin’s dress was stunning and her rock, oops ring, could not have been any larger. Don’t worry, I’ll have pictures. The groom’s dad is gay and when the couple kissed, he kissed his partner. That got a real reaction from the elders. The reception was next. It was on the 56th floor of a building right in central downtown Chicago. The walls were glass from ceiling to floor so the view was incredible. Also, the theme at the bar was Martinis. Angie (my cousin, the bride) was insistent that only the best liquor be served. So, I got drunk on martinis made with Absolut vodka and similar mixes. My drunk cousins and I danced like there was no tomorrow. It was truly so much fun. Post reception, we did the club thing with the cousins. I pretended I had no id and said I was 22 - it worked like a charm. I guess I am pretty believable in my low/cut, short, tight black dress.

The rest is just driving on Sunday. Then back to UD. I extend a big thank you to my awesome roomie for helping me carry all my stuff up to th room. She is a real trooper.

That’s it folks, night night.
