So I've been in Oregon for the past uh... week? Yeah, that's it, wow it's been such a blur of doing a lot of nothing and a lot of dangerous and painful things.
I arrived on Monday - after 9 hours of plane travel and then a four hour drive from Portland, I arrived to the tired little town of Florence - or better known as the middle of NOWHERE!
Tuesday we all left for the mountains, another four hour drive... day wasted. The drive however was beautiful! We traveled through the snow covered mountains.
Wednesday we went snow tubing. DooDE! Soooo much fun! It looked like a wacky version of ice luge. My sister, dad and I got into a snowball frenzy while on the tube lift (a pulley system that dragged us up the hill, kinda like a ski lift). Apparently it was visible that we were thoroughly enjoying ourselves because we started a trend of snowball attacks on the lift. I successfully knocked my sister over backwards twice ... we looped all the tubes together and went down the slide ... best part? I got soaked! It was raining the whole day and my pants soaked all the way through. Ohmygod, you don't know cold until you stand in the snow, in the rain, with a wet ass. Then we spent the next day snowmobiling. Fun at first and then perpetually boring. My mind began wandering off after the first hour of riding around a mountain, deep in the woods, with no one around and a step cliff to my right... what if the tour guide is a freaky serial killer? What if this guy takes us up to somewhere totally isolated and we never return? What if I were to fall of the cliff? haha. Yeah, the snow, the darkness, the cold and the isolation is frightening. Nonetheless, still fun and different.
Thursday I spent back at the house, recovering from the sickness I arrived here with. I did NOTHING and it felt great.
Friday my stepmom took my sister and I to the mall in Eugene to finish up some shopping. Number one example of how far these people live from anything - it took us an hour and a half to drive to the mall! Argh. I could never live here.
Saturday was spent playing pool, watching movies, looking at lights and finished with a big holiday dinner. We opened a few gifts... my sister being the only one truly happy with what she recieved. At least I know her well!
Sunday woke up super early, went to church, came home and finished opening the gifts, ate a lot of junk and watched more movies. Oh yeah, and I tried to play one of the redneck games which ended in my demise. See, where they live is consumed largely by sand dunes. HUGE, massive - looks like the desert. So after it rains, it packs the sand down, making for a good sled ride. Yep, that's what we did, bundled up for rain, severe wind and sand. Good god it's the dumbest thing. Sounds like fun, but really it's quite miserable. You use one of those snow disks to sit on and you sled down the dunes. However, when I went down, it was quite bumpy and I slid backwards, knocked my spine on the disk and bruised my tailbone. I fell off and tumbled halfway down the hill and consumed mass quantities of flavorless sand. Yeah, I'm pretty beat up. At least I tried it.
I have not gotten any of my grading done at all. I want nothing to do with it. I'm enjoying this being lazy thing. I'm ready to go home now ... I still have a few days left, but I'm looking forward to spending some time with some pals and especially Jimmy - I'm hug deprived.
