More 'not guilty' pleas in stabbing case

By Barney Burke Leader Staff Writer

All five people charged in the stabbing of Tomas Hezina in Port Townsend on Oct. 20 have now pled “not guilty.” All five are charged with assault in the first degree, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison and/or a $50,000 fine.

Pleading not guilty in Jefferson County Superior Court Oct. 28 were James Michael Hansen, Ryan Robert Baker, Ryan Andrew Hausenfluck, and Kellee Lucia Farfan. Camron Louis Jevne pled not guilty on Oct. 25.

Hansen is 18 and the other four are 19.

Judge Craddock Verser agreed to lower Hansen's bail from $125,000 to $100,000. Baker's bail remains at $500,000 and the other three are set at $100,000. None had made bail by 9 a.m. Oct. 28, and they appeared before the judge by videoconference from the Jefferson County Jail.

All are scheduled for trial on Dec. 19.

Hezina remains in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His condition has been upgraded from critical to serious, but he was stabbed in the heart and lungs and has been on a respirator.

It was the first criminal stabbing reported in Port Townsend since 1994.
