One semi-good thing happened today; Mom's VA came through. Thought I'd let everyone know what this means.
VA (Veteran's Assistance) is financial aid for veterans and their families. Because my dad was in the Army, we are elligible, and because someone probably screwed up before dad died, they owe us money. Mom is getting a large sum that they owe her, and they are going to be sending her a check each month. Katie and I, being under 23, are elligible for a financial aid program for college, which Cassie is not because she's going to be married by the time all of this takes effect (she may be making too much money, as well, but that's neither here nor there since her marriage prevents her from qualifying anyway).
I am toying with the possibility of finding everything I need to fill out a FAFSA application and the VA's request form to put in an application at UW Manitowoc to go part time for a business degree (I didn't see library sciences when I looked on the course list online, but I did see that they accept GED students). Of course, fat chance. I'll probably just wind up working some job outside my chosen field anyway, but I'm at least trying not to just go with the "bah, screw it, nothing good's ever going to happen" POV...
Later,
Kristi
