i just got finished reading the book - i'm about to make a post on the differences between the book and the original film. just for notes before everyone else sees the movie.
but it's an easy read - i finished it in an hour sitting at the park.
from the clips i've seen, the new film looks DECIDELY closer to the book; i recognize the dialogue exactly. but, then again, we already knew that's what burton was gonna do.
i like the new veruca salt, personally. she's much snottier and less bratty; she's more old money and less nouveau riche. the actress in the old film was kinda hagged looking - her face was gross, her hair was thin, and her red dress was seriously too small/tight for her frame.
HA! i just read it too, a couple of weeks ago. i love roald dahl, i bought a huge stack of his books on ebay, and have yet to read them all. i also read charlie and the great glass elevator...that one's a bit nuts...so i doubt there'll ever be a film adaptation (i.e. sequel).
that's so funny, because after i finished the book, i had this grand plan to post an entry about the differences...but got lazy and lost my gusto for it. i look forward to your book report!
if the original Wonka had a long black goatee, then why the bob haircut and silly big teeth on johnny and no goatee? :(
i dunno about the goatee - if depp had a goatee, with that hat and that hair, it would make him look older, i think. i like how all the characters look more like cartoons than actual people. again, typical of burton, i suppose.
