I decided to wake up early to go to church today. I've really missed it lately, so I went. Instead of what I was hoping for (which is usually 30 minutes of singing and dancing followed by 30 min of really amusing teaching) I found out that the pastor is leaving. Today was dedicated to laying on of hands and praying for the new staff. I decided to leave. Mistake # 1: It's not good to walk out in the middle of church. I decided to go for a drive, and listen to worship music, but I didn't bring my phone. Mistake # 2: Always bring your phone when out in the middle of nowhere. So I'm driving, get about 15 miles into the country and decide to head back. Tried to turn around in someone's driveway and got stuck in their yard (it was all clay). I decided to turn there because there was a for sale sign and looked like no one lived there. Mistake # 3: Don't drive through someone else's yard, or if you do, make sure the ground isn't too wet. I tried to get it unstuck and realized I wasn't going anywhere. Since no one was around and I didn't have my phone, I decided to start hiking back to town. I get a few miles down the road (wearing boots that were obviously made for looks and not walking long distances), and felt like a total loser. I have onstar. I could just push the button and help will come. Mistake #4: duh, isn't that one obvious? So I hike back. I get to my truck a little while later and the guy who owns the house is waiting for me, as well as another guy who stopped to help. He had a chain, so we pull it out. I left huge ruts in the man's yard, which I feel terrible about. Tomorrow I am going to leave some sort of gift basket with a card that has my number on it so I can help with the cost of fixing his yard. Poor guy is minding his own business trying to sell his house and I come along and make his yard look like it's been hit with an earthquake. Besides the obvious lessons, I learned, yet again, how important it is to be able to laugh at yourself when you go through life missing key parts of your brain. Why do I feel like I learn this one way too often? I also learned that the kindness of strangers can really make someone's day. I also learned that I really, really, REALLY need to put some insoles in these boots. I am going back to bed and then clean my truck off. Goodnight.
