Personally i'd rather read it with the date and location before the flashbacks.

I find italics can be a bit hard on the eyes, especially if there's a large chunk of text, and just from a formatting point of view i think the date and location looks much better.

I was leaning toward the date and location for the longer flashbacks and italics for the really short stuff. I just wasn't sure if would be jarring.

Date and location; I think it looks neater - and stops me from playing 'find the broken end-italic tag'!

I was thinking along those lines, for clarity and for my poor eyes, but I wasn't sure if people had a preference. Thanks for the input!

I was leaning toward keeping the short bits in italics and the longer with the date and location.

Would that be jarring?

My personal preference (as a reader) is not to have long passages in italics - I find it hard on the eyes and stylistically kind of jarring.

I was really leaning that way, but wanted to throw my question out there. In books I tend to groan at pages of italics, but wasn't sure if I was alone in my personal taste or not.

Thanks for the input!

I also throw in my vote for no italics!

Thank you! I was going for the no italics, but wanted to feel that idea out. :D
