Hello again!

Wow, a whole year without a post! Never meant for that to happen, but then, I don't check here often anymore. Need to get back here more often.

The Phillips Family had a very good year in 2016. I finally got a job -- back at the CDC, working with Shannon at the EID Journal -- and am really enjoying it. Have gone from 20 hours to 32; hoping to go full time this year. We shall see!

I also had back surgery in October to finally deal with my severe sciatic nerve pain. Am so thankful it was successful -- no more sciatica!!! It'll be about a year until my lower back muscles are fully recovered from the surgery, as the surgeon had to detach them, move them to one side, then reattach them; so I do have lower back pain when I overdo it, but am trying not to do that too often.

David was diagnosed with diabetes in January, started following a low carb/low sugar diet, lost 85 lbs. (Wow!) by October and his A1C is back to normal, so he's no longer on diabetic medication and doesn't have to check his blood sugar every day anymore. SO proud of him! He turned 50 in May and has really mellowed out a lot, temper-wise, which is a very good thing. We celebrated our 18th anniversary in December and are doing great.

Mary Kate is 13 now (I know!), is 5'7" (towers over her little Mama), and is doing great in 7th Grade. She opted to go into four gifted classes this year (adding gifted math) and has maintained all As and Bs -- so proud of her! She also made Honor Chorus this year and tried out for All-State Chorus, but didn't make it. But I'm so proud of her for even trying! She's in her 8th year of Girl Scouts (Cadettes now) and is still enjoying it, which is great. I hope the troop sticks together through high school. We shall see!

So, that's it with me for now. Just trying to stay warm today. Brrrrrrrrr, it's cold!

Happy 2017, everyone!!!
