I dunno wtf, but apparently Disneyland is conducive to me making friends?
So I'm at Casey Jr. and it's the end of the night on Monday when we shortened park hours because it rained so hard core, no one was there. I'm blowing bubbles at kids while they wait in line when I hear some guests go "OMG those are so cute, where did you get those?" to these three girls whom I immediately pegged to be Japanese. They're clearly not that good at English because they あわてって for a second before responding "Tokyo Disney." Insert mental fist pump on my part.
At this point, there are a couple families with little kids, so I move myself down the line to blow bubbles for everyone, stopping at the Japanese girls and going "はい、こちも~” before moving on to the family behind them with kids. I imagine their thought process went a little bit like: "Oh, bubbles! .... Wait, she just spoke Japanese!" because that's how it always goes and because when I moved up through the line again with the bubbles (as the train was approaching) they leaned forward to inspect my language pin.
It was really cute, they asked me why I spoke Japanese so well and I told them it was because I really liked it. They went "Wah! Thank you!" I found out they work at the Tower of Terror at Disney Sea and I decided to disregard their silly seat belts (shoulder belts on Tower of Terror? Who does that?) and told them I really liked that one.
Of course, as we're loading the train, rotation comes. I'm walking down the exit ramp and they ask where I'm going.
"To Pinocchio."
"Pinocchio, okay, we'll go there next!"
I am, obviously, excited for this. Until I get there and realize we've just started closing the area for pyro. I always forget that. I kind of hope I'll catch them during the show, but no such luck. I play with some other kids during that time, which was still tons of fun.
Then Tuesday. Laura had texted me to ask if I wanted to go to Disneyland if it wasn't pouring, so we went since it didn't even rain at all. We go with her mother and borther, and he wants to ride Small World because it's different now. We start taking the path that passes the Matterhorn and as we pass the castle I see the Japanese girls from the night before. I spaz a little bit to myself wondering if they'll notice me and they do. They all light up and run right over to me.
"OMG We tried to go to Pinocchio last night but the area closed!"
"OMG I know, I completely forgot about that!"
"Are you going to come to Japan again? You should contact us, can we have your address?"
So we swapped e-mails. They were so freaking cute. They asked me how I learned Japanese and I told them Sailor Moon and we all started singing the theme song.
THEN ONE OF THEM ASKED: "友達になってくれませんか?”
Me: もちろん!!
My god. Cute Japanese girls. And they're my friends ♥ Now I have to go to Japan again. (Somehow, while watching the 7th Conan movie and pinning for sakura blossoms, I concocted a vague idea that next year I should take winter intersession instead of spring and go to Japan to 花見 in April. Would be nice~)
DIFFERENT STORY: And then yesterday, I walk into the classics office to wait to clock out and this new girl who is in the college program goes "Is that Chinese or Japanese?" and because of that discover that we are both anime and KH fans. Marissa, the other anime fan, was there and we all started spazzing together. They're going to make me cosplay Chobits (ugh. But I'll do it for them.) Jenny (the new one) was like "I want to keep walking with you guys, would one of you drive me to K-lot?" and I was like "sure" but then we get out of the parking lot and she goes, "Man, I'm hungry."
"I'm hungry too."
"Do you want to grab something to eat?"
"Why not!"
So then we grab some fast food, drive over to her car in K-lot and proceed to talk for two and a half hours.
At the two hour mark she was actually going to leave, but then she made a comment about texting me when she's bored before work (because she has to leave super early. She's in Redlands and has to take the 91) and, I don't even remember, but I said something about Akuroku and she went "WE SHOULD TEXT RP" which would be a little amazing (I did just get unlimited texting...) and that got her started on this AU that she's plotted out with her friends (but apparently hasn't written?) so she was like "damnit, I'm just going to sit back down," and proceeded to tell me about that. It was rather amusing. She's pretty good at keeping a conversation going by herself, which is generally what I look for in a new acquaintance, but still leaves at least a little room for me to throw in a comment or two. (Unlike Marissa. But if anyone can survive talking to a person like that, it's me.)
How do all these people find me? I will never understand.
Now, my throat is killing me so I'm going to go drown in too much tea and fruit juice so I hopefully wont get sick.
