So...
I finished wiring the new outlets. Finally tore down the range hood. Made templates of all the backsplash areas, and tonight I fit the tiles to them. Also plan to set up the tile saw.
Tomorrow - cut tile and/possibly lay it.
After that - grout, place and wire new range hood, drill holes for cabinet knobs
I don't know why this backsplash project intimidates me so much, but I've been agonizing over it for most of the summer. And it's still not done.
Hmm. Maybe I'll just go to the beach tomorrow as the rest of my work week promises to be nasty (five straight days/night. ugh)

Also finished The Dragon's Path (Dagger and Coin 1) by Daniel Abraham.
It was pretty good. I think I wanted to like it more than I actually did (like it). It was (and this view was reinforced after reading the interview at the end of the novel) very... almost academically written. Not so much a deconstruction of the epic fantasy, but one that was very story and premise driven to the detriment, I thought, of the characters. It almost felt as though they were written only to fill their roles in the story. Which isn't to say they weren't realistic or have motive and respond, as humans do (sometimes in less than noble ways), to the situations they found themselves in. I don't know if it's just that I didn't really like any of them (because I didn't) or if it was something lacking in the characterization. I may not have liked them *because* they were well written human beings (many of whom I do not like). But I guess that's what makes writing interesting.
Anyway, I do plan to finish the series, but am not itching to do it tomorrow, either.

I've been watching Extant on CBS. I really like it. So much better than most of the rest of summer TV. I really really want this to continue which, given my track record, means it won't.
*fingers crossed*
