Exoskeletons rule

Saw Elysium last night, and I have a few thoughts.

First is that I really enjoyed it. It's fun, sci-fi, slight tweak on the standard formula (which is formula because it works) insofar as Matt Damon is... Matt Damon. While he's not Jason Bourne in this by any means, his superheroes are more men than superheroes (even with the exoskeleton) if you know what I mean. Second is that the sociopolitical message was not subtle at all (in fact, if you didn't pick it up from the thirty second trailer... I got nuthin), but it was still apropos--in your face or not. (Hell, District 9 wasn't exactly subtle either, while we're on the subject.) Blomkamp has his message and he delivers it with an extra-terrestrial spin. Third, Damon's character gets beat up. A lot. Fourth, the child who plays his early self has a better Spanish accent (you just can't cover Boston undertone with soft rolling 'r's). This effect is highly amusing to me. So, yeah, worth watching.

Speaking of things watching, I finally finished the Teen Wolf season, and it was a liitle underwhelming. Not sure I expected anything else, but I had been really interested throughout (which may say more about my life than the show) and I could take or leave the finale. Ah well, it wasn't as much of a cliffhanger as I was afraid. I'm still not sure what makes Scott all that and a bag of chips--I mean, he dosen't seem all *that* much smarter or full of heart than his buddies. But I dunno. Maybe I have to watch it again.

I am looking forward to some of September's offerings, however. Joss Whedon's Agents of SHIELD has potential (and PHil!) Dracula -- also shows promise (and that networks are finally ready to grab some of cable TV's successes). Once ... Wonderland could be interesting (the original Once is one of my guilty Sunday pleasures--after Football of course). Sleepy Hollow? Maybe. Actually, I rarely have time to watch shows, unless I can mainline a bunch of the season on a day off, while working on the house.

Speaking of which-- starting to slow down the rate of new projects and do things like have a life again, run, cycle, walk the dog.

I think that's all. Later!

tw, movies i've seen
