Weekends...Past and Future

This past weekend was fun. I went home and went to a movie with my mom, lunch with Sara, took pictures of the Tri-Cities for my BIS project, went and saw some friends (in Holland and then in Traverse City the next night), and went to the doctor and got a shot.

When  we were at the Church friday night visiting our friends they came in and told us that there were tornadoes that had gone through Tennessee, mostly where they live.  It was heartbreaking to know that one of our really good friend's house was right in the area that was being broadcast on National TV.  There were a couple different car dealerships that had lost tons of cars all over the city and a Lowe's that had lost its roof.  Our friend lives like 1,000 feet from those places.  They told us that they did not know what kind of shape their house was in because the police would not even let anyone in.  During the concert our friend's wife, who had been locked in at her office building because the power went out - she is only alive today because of that, called to say that she saw their house on tv.  Their house was missing the roof and the attached wall between the garage and the house.  The garage was just leaning there.  We were just in awe of how much they had lost.  We also called my aunt to make sure she was okay because they only live like an hour and a half from there.  They were fine and so far nothing had come through their little city.  We got home that night and went online and looked at a lot of pictures.  It just looked like a war zone.  It was crazy!  The next morning we went online again and saw that there had been two touchdowns where my aunt lived in the middle of the night after we had talked to them.  There town is smaller than MP so we were really worried when it said there were two just in their town.  Their phone lines were out though so we did not get a chance to talk to them till Sunday, when we called them at church.  Earlier Friday night we were talking to my aunt and she said that my uncle was suppose to have gone to Nashville that day but was held up at the church.  If he would have gone he would have been in a building right in the path of the 75 tornadoes that touched down in Tennessee in less than one day  or in a car having to run from them.

Needless to say it was a sad weekend for us having to learn that they had lost everything.  Their home and their office were scattered all throughout town.  They still cannot drive cars into town so they are using a dolly to wheel their life four blocks to a trailer.  The next months are going to be very hard for all of them.

On a happier note...WE ARE probably GOING TO ALABAMA ON THURSDAY.  Probably is only required to be in that last sentence because my brother had to get Saturday off of work.  Hello...he only works for one hour teaching a class and it's Easter Weekend...Come On!!  So I have planned everything knowing that we are going.  Thursday night we will drive like 12 hours, through the night.  Friday we will nap.  Friday night we will go see some friends and surprise the socks off of them.  We never have gone this far to hear them sing and I mean they are like a half hour from home and we do not normally see them unless they are close to OUR home.  Saturday we will drive 3 hours to visit my aunt, uncle, seven cousins, many horses and cows in Tennessee.  We'll leave their house at like 3 or 4 in the morning on Sunday and drive 5 hours to Indianapolis to see some of our other friends.  After their concert is done we will drive another 5 hours home.  Most likely go to the cheap movie with the hometown crew.  Monday, I will drive back to school and go to class.   SWEET!!
