Series: Travelogue Anthology (2)
Author: Kris S.
Fandom: Tennis RPS
Rating: PG (for nearly the whole series)
Disclaimer: This did not happen.
Summary: Series of short fics all involving the travel of the tour.
Author's Note for Series: I don't know how long this will take but since all the fics are stand-alone, you won't be left hanging.  This is the ever- changing list of what should be in the series.  If there's something you want to see, here is the request post (please read the guidelines).

Title: New York City: 2009 (Finishing)
Pairing: Marat Safin/Lleyton Hewitt
Author's Note: Request by slyreflection: Maybe not the pairing you thought I'd write for Marat but "Uncle Rat" got stuck in my head.

Marat now knows why it’s not a good idea to actually announce too early when you’re retiring. He just wants this year to be over already.

He hates this retirement tour and being forced to play tournaments he would have otherwise withdrawn.

He hates looking at the other side of the net at someone clearly thinking about what has happened between them before.

He doesn’t want to remember why he hooked up with some random player who was great in juniors but hadn’t yet lived up to potential on the tour.

He doesn’t want to remember the days when he could invoke fear in even elite players, players who looked to him as an “elder statesman”, someone to emulate.

He looks to Lleyton, who seems to want to play until he literally can’t walk onto the court. He’d hate to think how strong the painkillers are, but he doesn’t want that type of ending.

He hates that he’s going through the motions at this point, allowing Melzer to hit him off the court as his goodbye to the New York crowd. This is a crowd that absolutely loved (or maybe loved to hate) him as he made Sampras look ordinary nine years and a lifetime ago.

He hates that Lleyton wants to continue to do this, instead of enjoying the last few times they’ll have together.

It's time to move on and it looks like that will happen all alone.

Title: Miami: 2012 (Celebrity)
Pairing: Grigor Dimitrov/Andy Roddick, Serena Williams
Author’s Note: Request by slyreflection.  Based off that week when the tabloids thought Serena and Grigor were an item.

Miami Dolphins doesn’t really mean anything to Grigor but it means a lot to Serena, as she owns a share of this American football team. He agreed to be Serena’s hitting partner because, well, he’s not an idiot. That she’s been showing pieces of her life as well means a lot to him.

It’s weird to deal with Serena and Serena’s Hollywood friends. People that he’s only seen on the front page of trashy tabloids are actually friends of Serena’s, without any sort of irony about it.

Serena likes playing mind games, something that he’s not accustomed to dealing with. He does wonder if it was her idea to have the paparazzi think they’re a couple.

* * * * *

Grigor is still riding on the high of defeating Berdych the next morning while on the practice court.

“You’re still around?” Andy Roddick asks as he takes a seat next to him on the bench. “Serena hasn’t turned you down yet?”

“I never…” Grigor shakes his head, already sick of people thinking that he is Serena’s boy-toy. “I actually am still in the event, not… whatever you’re…”

“Save your breath. You’ll be forever blue balls with her. If she doesn’t already have you catering to her, too late for you.”

“Tabloids believe otherwise.”

Andy chuckles. “They can be fed anything. I guess it bothers you that your idol finally lost to me.”

Grigor rolls his eyes, now knowing why Andy was really talking to him. “I wish everyone didn’t compare me to Roger.”

“You’re right. I would bet you’re better in bed. More eager to please than he’d ever be.”

“What?”

“Serena has pretty good taste, I’ll give her that.”
