crack_van is shutting down. December is it's last month. I guess LJ really is dieing. I've been in denial until now. :( Does this mean I have to figure out how to use tumblr? :(
Tumblr people are migrating back to LJ, and I still see plus 200 every day, so it never seems to be dying to me. I have no idea where people are going...
They are? Yay! But my flist is so empty compared to how it used to be that Crack van posts take up a large chunk of it. So it will make a huge change for me. With the rec coms it was easier to keep up with fandoms and finding good fics and great authors. And one by one they either closed or just died out. :( Are that kind of resource going strong somewhere else on the 'net? I first found recs through websites and mailing-lists. And then everything migrated to LJ... And now I have troble finding it at all.
I don't think it's really gone anywhere. I made a huge meta post on this a while back. Culture has changed. Discussion like it was is no longer the fashion. It's more like little micro blurts like twitter and tumblr. Discussion/meta/group culture had its zenith with HP fandom, and hasn't really picked up like that since. Younger fans are more into the micro blurt stuff, their own opinions, no one elses. It's basically that fandom has changed - more in the hands of the shows/movies/producers, more about the individual working alone, and less about community. Swings and round abouts...
I also use LJ as my RSS feed, so that bulks it out, too.
It's so sad. The discussions and point of views from people with other experiences, other ways of living, from different parts of the world are the best part of fandom in my opinion. :( I've learned so much about life through comment threads.
