Recently,
kadyg pointed out Theo Jansen's work. It's pretty neat - it's sculpture that looks dangerous, and I'm completely in favor of that. It's usually good for art to be dangerous or
illegal. Art is, I like to think, about change - passivity suits it poorly, and the way we currently make legal structures currently strangles it. Jansen's sculptures walk and move and give the impression of life. I like this.
I've been on a bit of
TEDTalks trip lately, and so it was an interesting coincidence to see one of Jansen's sculptures onstage behind Erin McKean (who, herself, gave a
great speech, you should watch it) while she was talking about serendipity. Jansen, it turns out,
got on stage at TED and explained a bit about his Beach Creatures. Attention,
shatterstripes and
hemlock_martini - the future looms!
