But in general, take my advice, when you meet anything that's going to be Human and isn't yet, or used to be Human once and isn't now, or ought to be Human and isn't, you keep your eyes on it and feel for your hatchet.

My emphasis. Gee thanks, Clive. I was just having a quick reread of the Narnia cycle (current bathroom books) and that kind of jumped out at me and soured me on the book immensely. Again I say: Rule 34 isn't the only way to ruin artifacts of your childhood. I'm not really vocal about the transhumanism thing, but I believe in it firmly as a best-case scenario. I'm super excited that there is a nonzero chance (not a good chance, but a nonzero chance) that I'll survive to inhabit a gleaming metal shell or a bioengineered body that I have the option to replace or the Global Uploaded Consciousness. There are a lot of neat forms that existence could take in the future.
But there are a lot of people in the world reaching for their hatchets, who would raise them against me and people like me, who think that the way things are is the only way that things can be. I hope that if you've been reading this journal, you know how thoroughly I reject the idea that the way things are is the only way that things can be.
Silver lining: I spent the rest of that visit imagining Giant Robot Jadis and the Pevensies as something Voltronesque. I mean, children team up to save the world with the help of a Lion with Powers. Obvious connection, right? Plus cyborg Jadis, who you know would be awesome. She would be astonishing.
