My Day -

Dec 03, 2006 18:25

My day was pretty good - after only getting 6 hrs of sleep I got to work early (small yay),
told to work in the Crystal Dept (yay! no heavy toaster ovens today!),
and after 1 1/2 hours of work was told that they no longer needed extra Baggers - so I could go home early (even better yay!)

Here is the down side...

OK - here is the down side - because I was out sick on Wednesday I NEEDED today to make a slightly decent paycheck. However now I only have 20 1/2 hours of pay.
MAJOR SUCK!!

THEN when I get home I find my husband in a rant - earlier he went out to get the Sun paper and when he parked in the lot - the brakes went super soft. Now I am a fairly decent mechanic, so I went through the usual litany of What Kind of Symptoms.. Seems he has a leaking brake line. GAGH!!
It is COLD outside, I am sensitive to cold, I HATE working on cars in the cold.
ANyway we start to take off the back wheel (which has an OBVIOUS fluid leak underneath it), and find that the ASSWHIPE who put on the new tire 2 years ago put on a replacement lug nut that STRIPPED the threads from the lug bolt.. So now we have to use a special nut - OR - replace the lug nut (major pain and expense and involves removal of 13 year old nuts and bolts)

Anyway,, finally we get the tire off... and I can't find the bloody leak. I sitting in a pool of liquid that is coming from the car.. Where is the leak??

Then I see it... the rubber hose from the gas tank 'air breather pipe' is dripping gas.
GAS!! AAAGGGHHH!!!
And it is 3pm on a Sun!!
Do you know how many car part stores are open that late on a Sun?

THEN I finally find one open,, and he says that the only place to get this particular hose is either a dealer (read $$$$$$) or a junk yard (read $$$). Unfortunately I can't just use any old piece of rubber - this has to be a special formulation of rubber that can stand up to gasoline. Normal rubber will disinigrate in about a month in constant contact with gas.

So I ask the man - 'What is the ID/OD? (Inside Diameter/ Outside Diameter)'
So I can see if I can get it somewhere else....
He replies 'I don't know - that is a speciality part, I can't even begin to guess'
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

So we go back and put the tire back on and set a large coffee can under the drip so the leak won't get any worse on the pavement - and so the neighbors won't call the building supers on us.
I Am Not Letting Him Drive With A Leaky Gas Tank!!

So before work tomorrow or on Tuesday (my day off), we are going part hunting and hope it isn't tooooo expensive - or he will have to wait until I get my next paycheck.

I hope next week is better....
Oh! that's right - Christmas is coming and I work RETAIL!! BLEAGH!

But besides that my day was wonderfull!!

work, car
