Christi and I went down to Houston this weekend. Long drives, almost as much driving in
Houston itself, and a couple of showers: wedding and baby. For
those men out there who have not attended one of these events, or have
specifically been excluded, let me tell you now that these were pretty
typical events(I've been invited to several of each - should it worry
me that I get invites to things that are normally women-only?) for
their kind, and the reason men aren't included is because women don't
want them to know that most of what they do is play games of a nature
intended for grade-schoolers. Whether this is because
historically women were married very early in life, or perhaps because
they're entertained by the "cute" factor, I'm not sure. I think
women have certain parts of their brains shut down when involved with
weddings and births. Normally as competetive as alley cats, in a
back-stabbing-but-smile-to-your-face kind of way, they bond
at these times. On the other hand, both events involved a
considerable amount of food, and as any guy will tell you, this will
forgive nearly anything.
We intended to ride with the NWCC group on Saturday morning as well,
but a really nasty weather front moved through in time to make it cold
enough for arm and leg warmers, which neither one of us thought we
needed to bring. We got to the ride, watched as even more
obnoxious weather moved in on us, and then the temperature dropped
another 10-15 degrees. We opted for the better part of valor and
went to Denny's for a hot breakfast. Frankly, as tired as I was
last night, and as tired as I still am today, I'm not upset we got a
more relaxing start to things. I'm even taking today off the bike
as well, just to let the body relax, work out the kinks, and so
forth. I'll spend more time working on the next set of boots,
which I'm making for myself. Tomorrow should offer opportunity to
get in some good saddle time, and I can stretch things out and pretend
I know what a bike is for once again.
