Because I don't believe that survival of the fittest is the only way to live, or the right way either.
If I have an ability that others don't I would rather use it to protect them than use it prove I'm stronger. Life is important. I want to preserve it anyway I can.
That theory on life doesn't satisfy me in the slightest.
