Let the New Year commence...!

...In about a half an hour. Happy New Year, everyone!

And thinking about it, 2010 was quite an eventful year for our family, full of a lot of emotional highs and lows. It was in February that my grandpa passed away. He'd been living with us for quite a few years, coming closer to the end. It was quite peaceful and, really, couldn't have been a better way for him to go - at home surrounded by family, having been visited by more family the year before.

In summer, we finally went on vacation after two years of not being able to go. I was so incredibly iffy at first, because it had been a while, but it turned out to be such a blast that I was actually sad when it was over. It was great not just to get out of the house but to actually do things with family.

My mom lost her bird, and a few weeks ago my sister had to put her first horse down. Not fun. But our other pets are still with us, thankfully.

Fannish-wise I had expanded my horizons to more than just SGA, with a short stint M7, another very short stint in Criminal Minds, and now I'm into White Collar. I'll be honest - fandoms and fanfic are not the happy places they once were for me. Please don't take that as fannish "woe is me." It's really not a bad thing. My personal opinion is that it's merely a natural progression. Things change, fandoms change, people change, interest rates fluctuate... I mean change ;P. I take writing way too seriously, sometimes, and that makes reading certain types of fanfic a lesson in frustration (I now feel bad for those times when someone offered to beta one of my stories and I didn't take them up on it, because I now get where those people were coming from. For the love of pete, edit! Edit! And research!). Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy writing and reading fanfic. But, simply put, I'm not as into it as I used to be.

And that really is a good thing, because it means most of my focus shifting back to where it belongs - on original fiction. There was a time I was afraid that fandom and fanfic had eaten my brain to the point that I would never write original fiction again. I had had no desire what so ever to write original fiction. But, obviously, thankfully, that didn't last, and this year was a good year for me and my original fic.

My fannish involvement has also become less about fanfic and more about interacting with you guys. If you haven't noticed, I do love having discussions (and venting) with my f'list ;)

I hope this year proves to be just as eventful and interesting. I'm really hoping for good changes: getting a job or at least finding volunteer work, but most especially getting even closer to being published. I plan on starting book two of my original story, and finishing my NaNo story. Maybe even starting another novel entirely. Neither have I forgotten about the Sheppard Amnesia fic I promised ;) May this year be a year of progress and completion. And also the year I stop staying up so dang late :P .
