It's not really often I do reviews for new TV shows as it takes me a while to get into any show, but No Ordinary Family got me thinking.
It's cheesy, but a potentially cute kind of cheesy that if done right could mean a cute, popcorn, family type show that's isn't great but is fun to watch. I really like Micheal Chikliss (Sp?) and like that he's in a family show rather than a dark, gritty drama (because I think we have enough gritty dramas to last a lifetime). I like the concept of a family of super heroes, but only if the show is going to be about a family of super heroes, and not about dad the super hero while the rest of the family does their own thing. I hope we see the family actually working together to do good rather than have episode after episode of four separate storylines, as it would kind of defeat where the pilot had been steering the show. I mean, the whole theme was "family falling apart finding something to bring them together." So it wouldn't exactly make sense if the show ended up being about them dealing with their powers separately (not that that would be a bad thing, but only if we get some hero family time).
I'm worried it will go the "still separate" route, especially with the daughter - the cliche whining emo teenager who couldn't look at the positive if it smacked her in the face. I'm not a fan of TV teenage daughters as most are written as selfish, stuck up snots that we can't even begin to feel sorry for. I like everyone else and the direction the show is taking them, but the daughter I could kind of do without.
Sadly, though, this show strikes me as the type that will be first on the chopping block should shows get scrapped. I could be wrong - it's always a surprise as to what gets canceled and what doesn't. I want to be wrong, because it's different from the usual police/doctor/lawyer stuff and I'm always happy to see when a network leans away from mainstream (Pushing Daisies, how I miss you *wibbles*). But if this show does get canceled, I won't be surprised
