It's not winter hardy up here, but I think it can be grown in pots?

Well, I'm not sure what they do here to grow them, but then, the winter doesn't get anywhere near as cold here as it does in Michigan. They're very pretty and eye-catching.

I'm certainly glad I didn't try to answer first. :-)

Except for the individual petals, I was thinking they were some sort of Amaryllis. A little poking around and I knew I was wrong, but I found some other pretty stuff:

I believe they are cousin/closely related to the amaryllis, so you weren't really wrong!
