I sorta... "sabo'd" a wannabe yaoi-fangirl stupid kid at work yesterday kekeke *▽*
Girl (in some CHIJ convent-school uniform) with her mum in the store. Girl wants to buy Hetalia manga (passes vol. 3 単行本to mum). Mum asked me if there's Eng/Chinese translated versions available in our store...
Me: there are. But our store does not carry due to certain "sensitive" issues.
Mum: what sort of "sensitive" issues?
Me: like maybe... slight twisting of historical facts and, male/male relationships
Mum: *turns around to stare sharply at kid* *turns back to me* ...you mean 'Yaoi' relationships
Me: Not exactly 'yaoi' per se.
I then went on to explain to the Mum that for APH and some other series, whilst not exactly blatant-BL, does have some subtle hints. Also that even whilst the original work don't intend it to be so, the Internet and a series's fanbase could be quite the contrary. If kids cannot differentiate between 'fantasy' and 'factual', then it could be quite bad, developmental-wise. Also explained that whilst LC Kino carries a small section of BL manga, we do practice societal responsibility by tagging and properly wrapping up said manga; and that the management holds the right to request for ID-card checks and to reject selling merchandises to minor personnels (i.e. silly wannabe-kids --> nope i did not say this out loud in front of the Mum) if we do not deem them of suitable age. If in the instance their parents/legal guardians are present we will also try to explain and get full consent from parents before we sell said genre of merchandises to the customers.
Mum walks away truly thankful for the explanations... and needless to say the kid hates me now (even though her mum allows her to buy the APH manga in the end, but I'm sure her mum will also now be more watchful of what the kid reads; and yes I actually overheard the kid say to - pressumedly her friend - over a phonecall - that "I HATE THAT KINO STAFF!!!! >△< " )
The thing is, whilst I enjoy being a troll (kekeke! totally NOT repentant) and a drug dealer, I am also, a socially responsible retailer under the employ of a respectable company.
