After offering prayers to the Lord this morning, I began seeing and hearing the
"I Will Follow Him" remake in
Whoopi Goldberg's movie
Sister Act (1992) in my head. Then this was followed by he remake of
"My Guy", which Whoopi changed to "My God" in the said film when she was inside the convent.
These occurrences struck me as amusing and revealing at the same time because I remembered times when I, myself, turn modern songs to songs of worship. Whenever I hear and sing
Alicia Key's
"No One", I lift my eyes heavenward and smile. A week or two ago while watching a teaser episode of
Glee that featured
a Finn-Rachel duet, I was reminded once when I also dedicated the song
"No Air" to the Lord.
I personally love both songs (Isn't it intriguing to see they start with the word "No"? It kinda says something, doesn't it?) and what's common with my set and Whoopi's is the fact that they are songs that does not only declare love to someone, but also admittance of dependency toward their object of affection.
As Christians and followers of Christ, I think it is very important for us to declare such love and dependency to the one who is in our hearts and minds. We let the world know it not just by singing to Him, but by living out this love and dependency to Him as well.
