Small world... And I'm coming to hate technology
Sometimes my world is so small... When my parents come to visit they joke about not being able to take me anywhere because I always know someone, usually a student. I figured once (years ago) that using Spokane's population data if you put me in a room with 100 locals I'd probably have chatted with at least 1 - this ended up being demonstrated when at my not-in-law's holiday party couple came over to tell me I'd given them good advice on dealing with their dog. Lol. Today's moment was a bit different. I was cashiering today and a family came through and as I was finishing up the lady said "I guess I should use this as an introduction, we're B and G." I'm stumped as as I'm trying to find a polite way to ask how I should know them (I'm usually very good with faces) she says "from the Poly group." So now that part of my life is overlapping too, lol! I have to say that I'm not entirely sure how she knew me because we haven't ever met but we swapped quite a few e-mails a few years ago. It was nice to have a face to put with the name.
As for technology I'm incredibly frustrated. I get a lot of coupons online. Great. I can't print any of them. Making me mad. I also have a gadget I bought that wasn't cheap that I didn't really want but I thought it would make a couple things easier. Can I use it? No.
Gadget: In order to use it I have to update all the software by downloading it. Until I do that, it's an expensive hunk of tech. I can't do this because in order to I have to erase half my anti-virus software and in addition to this seeming like a bad idea I'm not sure how. The other half I have to add my gadget to a safe list which I have even less idea how to do. So now I'm really irked I've totally wasted my money on this thing.
Coupons: I have 2 computers. At home I only have dial-up, only 1 computer has a modem. This computer won't let us load my printer software on it. The second computer talks to the printer but can't go online unless I'm in town. I can print documents, pics, etc. by putting it on a stick, moving it to the other comp, then printing but you can't do this with most coupons. So I go to Best Buy and yesterday they said that my phone (which can go online at home) would print if my printer had wifi, bring in the printer info. Go in today, different person says no, sends me to different department, that department says no hope of adapter, sends me to 3rd department, they sell me a modem. I realize that I can't use modem because I have no dial up software on the wifi comp. Bah!!! So I try to load some while I'm in town because I bought a card to top up my wifi card (which works with in 1/4 mile or less of my house but not at it) but I can't get the website to work which means I can't load anything. So now I'm $100 into this and still can't print anything. I'm very irritated and frustrated and hating all things tech right now. And Best Buy for hiring people who don't have a clue what they are talking about.
