The thing that terrifies me most about the passage of time is how relentless it is. One one end of our lifetime is the moment we are in, and on the other end is our last moment alive. Time is marching forward, ever constant, and there is not a thing we can do about it. There is nothing in our power that will stop or slow the progression. Sleeping, awake, thinking, working, relaxing, we are deteriorating at the same rate. The only thing we can do is fit as much as possible into the shrinking remains of our lives. We can't extend our span, but we can optimize how we spend it. Even so, there are certain activities that given the amount of time we have and the level of effort required we could never hope to accomplish. I guess the realization that I really can't do anything I want is the most distressing. Hopefully I can still fit some pretty good things in there though.
