Some stuff to Rave about
This is a random blog post about some stuff I feel the need to rave about.
1. JD took me to the Melting Pot for our anniversary on Sunday. He picked it because when we were on our honeymoon he took me to The Melting Pot because I'd never been. I'm not going to address the food or the actual restaurant. I need to rave about the wait staff in BOTH Melting Pots (Maui and DC). In Maui, they asked the reason for the visit, and when we told them we were on our honeymoon, they all signed a card congratulating us on our shiny new marriage. Our waitress was extremely friendly and took the time to really cater to our needs. And she practically fell over herself making sure we got a picture of the event (I'll link to it later--I can't get Facebook at work). It was a very special occasion, and the waitress really added to it. For Sunday, JD had asked them to decorate our table in a Hawaiian fashion, and they did! When we walked in (15 minutes late) they gave us leis, took us to the most private table with the best view, and our table was covered in (fake) Hawaiian flowers and leis. The wait staff was very, very friendly, and our waiter was very cool. Matthew went out of his way to make sure our first anniversary was special, and gave us some Melting Pot seasoning (just put it in your purse!) and then treated us to champaigne on the house. Both restaurants helped make the date very special, and I recommend them to everyone.
2. I like what coffee does for me, but I'm not a huge fan of the taste. Honestly, I want me coffee to taste as much like dessert as possible, because dessert is awesome and coffee tastes like ass. I bought some Folger's Gourmet Hazelnut Cream this morning on the way in to work, and holy cats, is it tasty! I had some concerns because it's Folger's (our local grocery store has a pathetic selection of, well, basically everything), but now that I've tasted it, I'm extremely pleased with my choice. And it's Folger's so it was about $2.50 cheaper than the other coffees, to boot.
3. JD and I have been playing D&D with my cousin Erin and her friend OJ. I am so happy to get to know her. She's 12 years younger than me (almost exactly-her birthday is less than two weeks before mine) and grew up on the East Coast, while I'm from SoCal. Aside from one short vacation four or so years ago, I'd never met her. When JD and I moved here to DC, I was excited in part because I'd finally have the opportunity to live around my aunt, uncle, cousin Seth, and of course Erin and her son Jacob. Well it turns out that Erin and I have tons and tons in common. We get along great, and really enjoy each other's company. Neither one of us is much into girlie stuff, and both of us have just always been "one of the guys". So it's AWESOME to find out we're two peas in a pod, even though we grew up a country (and almost a generation) apart from each other. Unfortunately, she and OJ are getting stationed out in Hawaii soon, so our time together is very limited. (I had a terrible cold this weekend, and I considered canceling the game but decided not to because I wanted to see them.) OJ's a great guy, too, and I count him as much a friend as I do Erin. My life is richer for knowing them.
4. And now that I'm raving about how awesome my local gaming group is, I'm missing my San Diego group. Stan, Hyrum, Sean, and even YOU Gary. Finding a solid gaming group is challenging, so when I DO find one, I very much appreciate what I have. Thanks for making my Tuesday nights fun, guys! See you in August at GenCon! OBTW Stan, we found an Anime store in Chantilly this weekend. We'll take you there when you're out visiting this fall.
