Wow.
I was at the grocery store yesterday picking up something for lunch, and passed by the butcher department, they had grass fed steaks that had a $2 coupon attached.
I've heard a lot about how much better grass fed beef tastes and that there are health benefits to it and so on so I decided to pick up a steak to give it a try.
I really wish I had decided
Wow what a difference in flavor, a noticable (but good!) difference from standard USDA or Angus beef. Interestingly while my cat is always interested when I'm cooking something with meat, he was unbelievably annoying while I was eating the steak. Usually if I cut a sliver and offer it to him, he'll take it only about 50% of the time.
This steak however, I had barely placed somewhere for him to get at the slice before he was devouring it. He wasn't starved for food or anything, but for whatever reason this steak drove him nuts.
The unfortunate part is that grass fed beef seems to draw at least somewhat of a price premium. Time to start hunting the interwebs to see if I can find a place to order steaks that aren't ridiculously priced.
If you enjoy a good steak, I would really recommend giving grass fed beef a try if you have a chance though I suspect that the difference in flavor may mean some folks won't actually like it. The steak I had definitely had a more intense flavor than I was used to.
