It was brought to my attention today that Sufjan Stevens' Illinois is now four years old. That seems so crazy to me. It came out four years ago. That was a really big album for me, and along with Funeral and In the Aeroplane Over the Sea it really shaped my musical taste. I'm listening to Casimir Pulaski Day right now, and the line "Oh the glory, when he took our place/ but he took my shoulders, and he shook my face/ and he takes, and he takes, and he takes" still gives me chills. Four years later, and this song still makes me shiver. That's some pretty powerful songwriting.
