it's finally here...!!!
I'm totally in love with it. if it looks this glorious now, imagine it in color!
hmm... which reminds me, I still need to decide on colors. better figure that out.
my artist, josh, did a fantastic job. he was also uberconsiderate and kind to me. as for the pain level... well. I'm sorry, but it was EXCRUTIATING. entire side of ribcage and part of hipbone = NOT fun to have tattooed.
I couldn't really talk, mostly because doing so would move my body too much. but also, I had to commit all of my energy to handling the pain as gracefully as possible. I'm no rookie tattoo-er, as you know- in fact, I'm a veteran. and none of my tatts have really "hurt" so much as they've been temporarily uncomfortable to receive. but this one, I'll admit, it hurt. like a mofo. but who wouldn't that hurt? even josh said so. he said he's seen men cry while getting their ribs done.
there was a lot of eye shutting and whimpering, but I shed no tears, oh no. and when it got really bad, I tried to think of the blue scholars, and run their music through my head- and that really helped.
rachael accompanied me on the adventure and thank god I had her there. there were some times I almost reached for her hand, but I really didn't want to crush her fingers like I was doing to the padding of the bench I was lying on. she was excellent at distracting me with her conversations with my artist, her recaps of the maury povich show, and her narration and commentary on some of the shop's illustration books. I don't know what I would have done without her there.
in the pictures, some of the lines look lighter than others- that's because they're mostly placeholders, because color is going to go over them in the end. I have my next appointment scheduled for saturday, july 7, and will also be requesting company from someone willing to go and help me through it.
after the tatt, rachael and I hopped over to market street in ballard (which is shockingly similar to west seattle) and had dinner at a cozy little italian restaurant. sadly, archie mcphee was long closed up when we got there, so we'll have to embark on that adventure another day. we still had fun anyway, especially driving with the top down in her dad's z4 convertible. drooooool.
oh, how I love my tattoo!! even though it kinda hurts to move. methinks my wii activity is going to be pretty limited over the next few days while I heal- which might be for the better, considering I have wicked wii arm syndrome right now anyway.
blue scholars, how I love thee. and if this doesn't prove it, nothing will.
