yesterday was the most fun day I've had since being back at lmu, but it sure didn't start that way!
when I went to the doctor (all thanks to mary's much appreciated and valued company), I sat around on my ass for eons waiting to be seen. the clinic was kind of ratty, an old building that looked like it dated back to about the 60s. gigantic flat screen plasma tvs were hanging from the walls. I was surrounded by old people who eyed me and my pink hair and youg skin strangely, probably wondering what on earth I was doing there. the tvs were broadcasting regis and kelly at a volume loud enough to suit the oldies' fancy. as if that wasn't bad enough, when kelly's irritating as fokk voice announced that "coming up soon, a special appearance from barney!!!" would be on, I felt kind of like I was in hell.
the doctor and his nurses were friendly, though, and I could tell they knew what they were doing. the clinic is specifically a GI clinic, not a general medical clinic, so they're all experts there. but again, the waiting periods were nothing short of obscene.
when I was given an order for lab work, I was a little anxious. I hate getting my blood drawn. and the doctor specified that he'd need "one little tube and one big one," which made me flash back to the blood amount they took from me at cedars sinai that just about made me pass out. I waited for a good half hour to get my blood taken, and then when it was finally my turn, the nurse seemed distant and odd. she gave me a toy squishy fireman to squeeze in my hand and wrapped the elastic around my arm, then asked me if I preferred the "big needle, which will take less time, or the little butterfly needle, which will take longer." I wanted to just get out of there, so I chose the bigger needle. big is right, as in BIG mistake. she poked me and it hurt like a motherfaulfer, and then she didn't even hit a vein. I was massively irritated. so then she tried with the small needle, and that hit a vein, but I had to pump my fist repeatedly to get the blood moving, and it felt like a million years I sat there squeezing that fireman. my head got light and I lost the energy in my arm. I felt like I was either gonna hurl or pass out, probably the latter, and the room started to get dark, and I couldn't bear to look at the tube, and then it was finally over. awful, awful, awful.
the appointment took so long it caused me to miss american cultures. I was completely wiped anyway and was feeling pretty sick. I wanted to just snuggle in bed for the rest of the day.
but!! then I would have missed out on the fun I was to have!
calvin and ashley and I had all made plans to do something during the night. so, we met in my room, and then we went down to santa monica to go to the 3rd street promenade. I made ashley cry in laughter on the way there when I did my impersonation of us as a jacket-clad gang, lurking across campus during the night and snapping our fingers with bowed heads and hunched backs, a-la westside story.
we discussed the stupidity that is l33t speak and why its so fun to mock it. we talked about which smurfs we would be. we reminisced of days of yore at lmu, both the good and the bad (but mostly the good). we talked about sex. ashley asked me to entertain her with more amusing anecdotes about my life. calvin enriched us with a friend's statement on public drunkenness: "they can prove I'm drunk, but they can't prove I'm in public!!!" all in all, it was a night in which we discussed some very important nuggets of conversation....or something. heh!
we went to the mall and grabbed dinner, did a little shopping, and then we went to go see "shaun of the dead." if you're not familiar with it, the movie is a comedy-horror crossover. I wasn't aware it was an english thing, though, and some of the characters had such thick accents that I couldn't understand what they were saying. originally I planned on seeing it with austin, but since I wasn't with him last night, and there weren't any other good movies worth seeing...well, it just happened.
we walked out after the movie, full of life, walking like zombies through 3rd street, laughing and talking loudly and just having good (mostly clean) college fun. while stumbling around, I accidentally stepped on a scrap coming off of ashley's jeans, and there was a loud "rii-IIIP!!" noise. I looked down to see a strand of denim trailing off of her foot, and I piped out, "oh, girl!!" in a way not unlike the way that ashley says it herself. she wasn't mad, but she thought it was hysterical that I was imitating her as second nature!
we walked along 4th street then, up to a bowling alley, all the while talking about the anus (long story), and making dirty jokes, and replaying the westside story dance. once we got to the bowling alley, though, we couldn't bowl. ashley had to go home, so we left together... ashley was even recounting the anus conversation to her mom.
there were so many moments that we busted up in hysterics. ashley and I were crying we were laughing so hard at some points. we're quite the trio, I'll tell you what!
I'm lucky to have such great friends. my seattle friends, my lmu and l.a. friends, my online friends... I'm a lucky girl. I feel like sending all of my friends letters and telling them how important they all are to me, just for being who they are.
when I came back to my room, I was sad that our night was over. I thought I would be alone in the room that night, since daisy had to go to work early this morning, but she ended up staying, which made me feel better after seeing a zombie movie earlier... and I always prefer to have company, as opposed to sleeping alone. (and I swear, there's not a slutty explanation as to why!!)
although, her phone was ringing at 5 or 6 in the morning for some reason... it kept me up for awhile. --; but, the good news was it turned out I got to get more sleep than I thought, because austin couldn't come at 8 like he said. so things balanced out.

austin and I have had SUCH a great day today!
we've been all over town, shopping and having so much fun. got pizza at beach pizza, went to venice beach (we always have such a great time there), shopped, had some fun in the car, drove through santa monica and down PCH a little, drove up to the ucla area, went to the aahs! novelty store and jay and silent bob's secret stash (a comic store/collectibles shop with lots of nifty stuff that was used in movies, like the wings from dogma), then drove through hollywood, grabbed dinner, and came back home for some.....at home play.
speaking of which, I have to get offline so I can go get me some of that spend some time riding being with lover austin.
(hehe. did that make you cringe? lucky for you I was TRYING to make you squirm!! hehe!)
seriously, though. I have an amazing guy to keep me warm on this unusually brisk october california night, so I'm going to go enjoy that.
kickass friends + best boyfriend ever = awesome weekend = hooray for life.
